The Vittascience Cybersecurity Kit enables students and learners to discover, understand, and experiment with the core principles of cybersecurity through hands-on, engaging, and progressive activities. Designed for educational use, this kit places learners in realistic situations: intercepted communications, weak passwords, code injection attacks, message encryption… all inspired by today’s digital world.

Through an experiential, hands-on approach, learners go beyond theory: they observe, test, and understand how certain attacks work, and above all how to implement appropriate protection mechanisms.

Educational objectives

  • Understand the fundamental concepts of cybersecurity: confidentiality, integrity, authentication, encryption, hashing.
  • Discover realistic and common attacks: communication eavesdropping, dictionary attacks, code injection, identity spoofing.
  • Develop good digital security practices and strengthen critical thinking about digital technologies.
  • Give meaning to computer science learning and introduce learners to the culture and careers of cybersecurity.

An active and progressive learning approach
The kit is based on a pedagogical workbook structured into independent learning pathways, allowing fine-tuned adaptation to the learners’ level. Each pathway relies on a concrete scenario, guided experimentation, identification of security vulnerabilities, and the introduction of appropriate defense mechanisms.

Learners use multiple BBC micro:bit boards to simulate exchanges between “honest” actors and a malicious actor, making cybersecurity concepts visual, concrete, and easy to understand.

Recommended levels and use cases

  • Lower secondary (middle school): use of the first learning pathways of the kit, focusing on unencrypted communications, password protection, and introductory encryption concepts.
  • Upper secondary (high school): particularly suited for the NSI specialization and CIEL programs, with a selection of pathways adapted to students’ level.
  • Higher education: especially relevant for programs such as BTS SIO, the initial target audience of the project, with the possibility to address more advanced scenarios.

Some pathways, particularly those focusing on certificates and trusted third parties, are more demanding and are primarily intended for high school or higher education learners.

A national reference project
This cybersecurity awareness kit was developed as part of a national project, in partnership with Inria, PTCC, France 2030, and the Campus Cyber.
